High-speed rail link 'will boost Kent property prices'

16 December 2009

Gary Sparks MCEI MNAEA- Director Kent Properties Online

Property prices in Kent should rise off the back of the new high-speed rail link between the county and London, it has been suggested.

Director Gary Sparks of Kent Properties Online said that he believes house values will "definitely" increase as a result, particularly in 2010 in the areas closest to the train stations.

He added that next year looks like being extremely promising for the region.

"I would suspect that people will look at Kent, who haven't perhaps looked at Kent before, as a very strong contender for buying property," Mr Sparks remarked.

The high-speed rail service, which runs from St Pancras International, was launched officially by Southeastern on Monday.

With trains able to run at up to 140 mph, it is set to significantly reduce journey times across the region, with a trip to Ashford International - which previously took 80 minutes to complete on average - now lasting 37 minutes.
