Homeowners who use solar panels 'want to make a difference'

11 Aug 2010

Chief executive officer of HomeSun Daniel Green said the energy saving devices act as a badge of honour and show the wider community they are prepared to do their bit for the environment.

He claimed "virtually everyone" who has fitted panels watch the amount of energy they produce and explained it is a bit like losing weight, as people then start to watch what they eat.

"If you start watching the electricity that you are generating and also see your bills coming down, suddenly it becomes a way of life," he added.

The specialist's comments follow an announcement from Norwegian firm EnSol AS, which revealed it has developed a revolutionary new technique to harness green energy.

Investigators from the University of Leicester have helped to create thin film solar cell technology and EnSol AS hope to release it for commercial purposes by 2016.
